Many complain that copying or moving files in Windows Explorer is a tedious affair involving too many steps. Tiling two or more windows to drag and drop files can also get annoying over time.

The free program 'FolderBox 1.20' by Baxbex Software solves this problem as it adds a new pane in the explorer windows. You can open a second directory there so that files and folders can be managed comfortably in a single Explorer window. Besides this, you can define five folders as favorites and then just one click is enough to open them. You can download FolderBox from www.baxbex.com. After running the installation, open 'Windows Explorer' and check the 'View | Explorer-Bar | FolderBox', option. A new area, the 'FolderBox', will then appear at the bottom of the Windows Explorer. There, you can navigate through a second Explorer window. For example, you can click the down arrow button to open the same folder in the 'Folder-Box' pane that is open in the main Explorer window, and the up arrow button to do the reverse. You have the option to drag and drop to copy and move files and folders between the two panes.
FolderBox 1.20 can save up to five folders as favorite tabs. You can switch between the tabs using the button at the bottom margin of the FolderBox pane. Only two tabs are visible by default. You can choose to show more tabs by configuring the program's options, which can be opened through the 'Configure FolderBox' icon. in the 'FolderBox' tab, under 'Properties for FolderBox', select the corresponding box and check the 'Activated' option. Here, you can specify a standard directory for the selected box ('Initial-directory'), any name ('Name') and a file filter, so that, for example, only Word documents are displayed.
